Yes, a person can lose a limb from a tourniquet if it is applied improperly or, more commonly, left in place for too long a period, leading to irreversible tissue damage. However, modern first aid guidelines emphasize that in cases of life-threatening bleeding, the risk of death from blood loss far outweighs the risk of limb loss from a correctly applied tourniquet.

Keep one in your car, backpack, purse, or desk – anywhere you spend time daily. For most individuals, keeping one at home and one in your vehicle is a great start.
